Can our dogs and cats suffer from heat stroke?

At Elmubas Petfoodgroup, we specialise in dog and cat food recipes, and we want to help you to take care of your pet.

Dogs, unlike humans, do not have sweat glands, and can only regulate their body temperature through panting and eliminating sweat through their paw pads. This way of regulating internal temperature is not very efficient and can lead to the dreaded “heat stroke” in hot weather.

The simplest way to prevent this is to be aware of the temperature and humidity in your area, pay attention to the non-verbal signs of your dog, and act cautiously. This way, both you and your dog can enjoy a happy and safe summer.

Remember that it is a veterinary emergency: At the slightest doubt (intense panting, rapid breathing), take your dog to a cooler area and contact your vet for the most appropriate course of action.
