Importance of carbohydrates in the diet of your dog or cat

At Elmubas Petfoodgroup, we specialise in dog and cat food recipes, and we want to help you to take care of your pet.

Today, we’re talking about carbohydrates, one of the three macronutrient categories along with fats and proteins.

As the name suggests, they are made of three elements: Carbon (C), hydrogen (H), and oxygen (O). They are a primary energy source and also provide fibre, which can benefit gastrointestinal health.

The simplest molecules are sugars. When these sugars form long chains, they are called polysaccharides and are abundant in the plant kingdom. Some are digestible, like starches, and others, like dietary fibres, are not.

At Elmubas, we use the extrusion process as a technology for making our products. This process gelatinises starches, making sugar absorption easier, helping our pets obtain the energy they need.
